A Productive Rant About Double Pushchair

A Productive Rant About Double Pushchair

Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

A light double pushchair is easy to move around, especially if you have children of various age groups. They are easy to fold, steer and carry up and over stairs.

This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also has adjustable reclining, UPF 50+ canopy, and windows that peek out. It also has a clever frame that can be expanded to accommodate a second car seat and a compatible car seat(s).

Side-by-Side

The majority of the light double pushchairs we tested were side-by-side models. These are the best for children who can sit without assistance, since they aren't as likely to have car seat compatibility. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double, are both excellent options. They have recline adjustments for both seats, a large canopy, and padded five-point safety harnesses. They're also easy to move despite their larger footprints and are perfect for parents who worry about fitting through doorways.

The Cybex Duet is a little different due to its clever frame that extends its width to create another seat, which makes it lighter than the majority of other pushchairs that are side-by-side on the market. It can be pushed through standard doors and is easy to maneuver on public transport. It also doubles as a jogger which is a great feature when you're planning to use it with an infant carrier or car seat. It's also available in a variety of fun colors.

Another great side-by-side, lightweight double is the UPPAbaby Vista v2 Double, which allows for even more customization with a modular frame. The clever design allows you to transform it into a double or single buggy by adding two carrycots or child car seats. It can even accommodate twins. It's a great option for families growing. The UPPAbaby umbrella stroller is also one of the lightest, most fashionable and stylish strollers available.

Try the egg2 that folds down to the size and weight of a tiny suitcase. It can be used as a double or a single by adding 2 baby car seats or carrycots. Our home testers were impressed with how easy it was to move, even with a full load of kids.

Side-by-side pushchairs that are lightweight aren't foolproof however -- if your children are at the same age or stage, they might still argue over who gets to ride in which seat. If they are at different heights, then it is possible that a tandem design is ideal for them as it allows them to face each other.

Tandem

While side-by-side models are best suitable for siblings of similar age group, tandem light double strollers have their own appeal. They can take a bigger car seat, and some come with convertible seats or an additional carrycot in the middle. They are larger and easy to get into and out of. However their baskets tend to be smaller than those found on single buggies. They often have larger big canopies with windows that peek out and a parent cup holder and cushioned leg cushions for the children.

The iCandy Peach is another example of a lightweight and affordable tandem. The fabrics are a little less luxurious than those of some of our top-rated doubles. However, it looks great and is easy to use. One of the most striking things about it is its single-handed fold. While it will require some practice, Kirstie in our Lab declared it to be "genius". The carrycot is not foldable while it is attached. However, the mechanism to attach and remove the carrycot is easy and quick.

Tandem lightweight double strollers will usually make tighter turning than side-by-side models. However, they could be more difficult to navigate on uneven surfaces and curbs. They may also be slightly slower to pick up speed and can be heavier to move, which could result in strain on your back.

A convertible double buggy is an additional option. It starts out as an individual however, you can add adapters to make it a double. This can include an additional seat or carrycot in the front, or the children can be seated side-byside. Some can also consider adding a buggyboard, which helps an older child keep up with younger siblings or brothers.

The Uppababy Vista V2 can be transformed into a twin-sized pushchair by purchasing additional cocoons for PS59 each. These cocoons provide a flat space for newborns. They can be placed on top of each other or positioned to face each other, and you can use them in conjunction with the baby car seat that comes with the pushchair (as as long as you select a compatible one). These buggies with dual-use capabilities are made of high-quality materials and can last for many years without showing any wear. This means they have the highest resale value.

Single-to-Double

This light double buggy is designed for families who love to go on outdoor adventures and would like to upgrade from an individual-stroller. It can be transformed into a jogger with a kit that includes air-filled tires as well as all-wheel suspension. It's also a great choice for twins, or children of different ages, and as a triple tandem, it is able to be able to handle the rough terrain. It's also a great choice for parents who want a stylish design that's as sleek as a single, and comes in a variety of colors for the fabric.

We were impressed by the way this iCandy model folds into itself using a single-hand mechanism that's very easy to master. It's heavier than other single-to-double pushchairs, but home tester Karolina says it's very capable of maneuvering even with two toddlers and a carrycot.

The seat can be used as a parent-facing and you can purchase accessories for this stroller like the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each) which are great for newborns. Our panel of testers found that the seats were comfortable for toddlers, with good lumbar support and headrests. And there are plenty of options for recline in the front, with the seat being adjustable to different positions, and the rear seat having a recline option.

This type of buggy comes with the biggest disadvantage of being wider than the side-by-side doubles. This makes it difficult to navigate through doorways and it isn't easy to maneuver between kerbs. However, the wheels and suspension on these models generally do a good job of dealing with pavements and the fact that they're usually significantly lighter than the side-by-sides means you can still find plenty of storage space. It's important to remember that these types of strollers aren't as good at navigating narrow aisles in supermarkets, and may struggle to cope with a lot of shopping. It's a bit easier to turn them around even on the smallest of curving paths but even this can be difficult. Some are easier to turn than other, such as the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.

Convertible

The great thing about convertible double pushchairs is that they can adapt to a family's changing requirements. They often start out as single buggies, but come with adapters to add an additional seat, a carrycot or (in certain instances) an automobile seat to the frame. Some even convert to a single buggie when your older child begins to walk more or prefers to ride on buggy boards.

One of the lightest  double stroller s on our list, this stylish tri-fold model can carry children up to 40lbs each. It comes with an easy-to-use basket between the seats to store things. The spacious canopy with peekaboo window, multi-position reclining seats as well as front and back suspensions to ensure smoother riding on rough terrain were praised by the home testers. It also has a convenient parent cup holder as well as an enormous, easily accessible basket. However, they pointed out that the backs of the seats have pockets that aren't large enough to hold much more than a phone and keys.

This top-of-the-line, lightweight side-byside can be used in more than 20 different configurations and comes with an additional seat and carrycot. Its impressive feature set includes a handlebar with a high-profile design for easier steering as well as rear and front suspensions to smooth rough terrain; a self-standing compact fold that has straps that make it easy to schlep and seven-inch wheel lock that swivels in the front and 10-inch rear wheels with suspension to provide a more comfortable ride. The only drawback is that you'll need to buy a separate baby carrier or car seat.

This multi-functional tandem is the top choice of our home testers because it is easy to maneuver and has an enormous shopping basket that is accessible from both seats when in the parent-facing positions. It is easy to move around due to its light weight (about the same as a few single pushchairs). Reversible seats mean they can be switched to face either direction and the clever way it can attach the second seat or riding board to the rear is highly praised by many. Parents also admired that it accommodates infant carriers and car seat from a variety of brands. This includes those that aren't normally compatible with other double buggies.
